*वेदानां सामवेदोऽस्मि देवानामस्मि वासवः ।*

*इन्द्रियाणां मनश्चास्मि भूतानामस्मि चेतना ॥10.22॥*

वेदानाम्– वेदों में; साम-वेदः– सामवेद; अस्मि– हूँ; देवानाम्– देवताओं में; अस्मि– हूँ; वासवः– स्वर्ग का राजा; इन्द्रियाणाम्– इन्द्रियों में; मनः– मन;च– भी; अस्मि– हूँ; भूतानाम्– जीवों में; अस्मि– हूँ; चेतना– प्राण, जीवन शक्ति |

*अनुवाद*

*मैं वेदों में सामवेद हूँ, देवों में स्वर्ग का राजा इन्द्र हूँ, इन्द्रियों में मन हूँ, तथा समस्त जीवों में जीवनशक्ति (चेतना) हूँ |*

*तात्पर्य*

पदार्थ तथा जीव में यह अन्तर है कि पदार्थ में जीवों के समान चेतना नहीं होती, अतः यह चेतना परम तथा शाश्र्वत है | पदार्थों के संयोग से चेतना उत्पन्न नहीं की जा सकती |

*Translation*

*Of the Vedas I am the Sama Veda; of the demigods I am Indra, the king of heaven; of the senses I am the mind; and in living beings I am the living force [consciousness].*

*Purport*

The difference between matter and spirit is that matter has no consciousness like the living entity; therefore this consciousness is supreme and eternal. Consciousness cannot be produced by a combination of matter.
