*अक्षराणामकारोऽस्मि द्वन्द्वः सामासिकस्य च ।*

*अहमेवाक्षयः कालो धाताहं विश्वतोमुखः ॥10.33॥*

अक्षराणाम्– अक्षरों में; अ-कारः– अकार अर्थात् पहला अक्षर; अस्मि– हूँ; द्वन्द्वः– द्वन्द्व समास; सामासिकस्य– सामसिक शब्दों में; च– तथा; अहम्– मैं हूँ; एव– निश्चय ही; अक्षयः– शाश्र्वत; कालः– काल, समय; धाता– स्त्रष्टा; अहम्– मैं; विश्र्वतः-मुखः – ब्रह्मा |

*अनुवाद*

*अक्षरों में मैं अकार हूँ और समासों में द्वन्द्व समास हूँ | मैं शाश्र्वत काल भी हूँ और स्त्रष्टाओं में ब्रह्मा हूँ |*

*तात्पर्य* 

अ-कार अर्थात् संस्कृत अक्षर माला का प्रथम अक्षर (अ) वैदिक साहित्य का शुभारम्भ है | अकार के बिना कोई स्वर नहीं हो सकता, इसीलिए यह आदि स्वर है | संस्कृत में कई तरह के सामसिक शब्द होते हैं, जिनमें से राम-कृष्ण जैसे दोहरे शब्द द्वन्द्व कहलाते हैं | इस समास में राम तथा कृष्ण अपने उसी रूप में हैं, अतः यह समास द्वन्द्व कहलाता है |समस्त मारने वालों में काल सर्वोपरि है, क्योंकि वह सबों को मारता है | काल कृष्णस्वरूप है, क्योंकि समय आने पर प्रलयाग्नि से सब कुछ लय हो जाएगा |

सृजन करने काले जीवों में चतुर्मुखब्रह्मा प्रधान हैं, अतः वे भगवान् कृष्ण के प्रतिक हैं |

*Translation*

*Of letters I am the letter A, and among compound words I am the dual compound. I am also inexhaustible time, and of creators I am Brahma.*

*Purport*

A-kara, the first letter of the Sanskrit alphabet, is the beginning of the Vedic literature. Without a-kara, nothing can be sounded; therefore it is the beginning of sound. In Sanskrit there are also many compound words, of which the dual word, like rama-krishna, is called dvandva. In this compound, the words rama and krishna have the same form, and therefore the compound is called dual.

Among all kinds of killers, time is the ultimate because time kills everything. Time is the representative of Krishna because in due course of time there will be a great fire and everything will be annihilated.

Among the living entities who are creators, Brahma, who has four heads, is the chief. Therefore he is a representative of the Supreme Lord, Krishna.
