duḥkheṣv-anudvigna-manāḥ sukheṣu vigata-spṛhaḥ
vīta-rāga-bhaya-krodhaḥ sthita-dhīr munir ucyate

This verse is an important teaching from the Bhagavad Gita (Chapter 2, Verse 56). It explains the qualities of a Sthitaprajna—a person of steady wisdom.

Verse:
“duḥkheṣv-anudvigna-manāḥ sukheṣu vigata-spṛhaḥ
vīta-rāga-bhaya-krodhaḥ sthita-dhīr munir ucyate”

Meaning:
One whose mind is not disturbed in sorrow,
who does not crave excessively for pleasure,
and who is free from attachment, fear, and anger—
such a person is called a Sthitaprajna (a person of steady wisdom).

Simply Put:
A person who does not become overly excited in happiness
and does not lose balance in difficult situations,
but maintains a calm and balanced mind—
that person is called a Sthitaprajna.

Example:
If a student secures first rank in an examination, he should remain humble and not become arrogant.
If in another attempt the result is not favourable, he should not lose hope but try again with determination.

A person who can accept both happiness and sorrow with equal balance is described in the Gita as a Sthitaprajna.

This verse teaches a great principle of life—to keep the mind steady and balanced, whatever the situation may be. 🙏
