India's first "Algae Tree" has been installed in Bhopal.

🌳 What is an "Algae Tree"?

An "Algae Tree" is not a real tree, but a type of advanced machine (photo-bioreactor). It is a tall, glass-tank-like structure and is also called a "smart tree." The tank is filled with water and millions of microscopic algae, and it runs on solar power.

⚙️ How does it work?

The microalgae inside absorb carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the surrounding air and release oxygen (O₂) through the process of photosynthesis. In other words, it functions like a real tree, but at a faster rate.

👍 What are its benefits?

• Rapid air purification: One "Algae Tree" can absorb approximately 1.5 tons of CO₂ per year, equivalent to the work of about 25 mature trees. It can reduce PM 2.5 particles by 45–55% within an area of around 15 meters.

• Requires very little space: In crowded cities where there is no room to plant trees, this machine can be installed easily. It only needs a small corner.

• Runs on solar energy: It operates using sunlight, allowing it to function independently while helping protect the environment.

Important things to remember

• It is an aid, not a replacement: The purpose of this technology is not to replace real trees, but to support them by improving air quality in urban areas. Real trees remain essential for the environment and the soil.

• Dependence on sunlight: Without sunlight, its efficiency decreases, although it has backup LED lights to continue operating.

This is an innovative technology, and similar solutions may be seen in more cities in the future.
